Cable and Wireless Guernsey pointing to wrong server

Postby soph142 » Mon Jun 08, 2009 6:30 pm

Sorry to resort to the forum to post this - my emails to you have been ignored and by 18th June it will be almost 2 months since exclusioin from sites using your lite version. (Last one sent to maxmind 18th May)
This is costing me a bomb in lost earnings!
My last email to sent to you has not resolved the problem in your early June lite update
----------------------------------------------
Thank you for submitting your GeoIP correction. We review each submission and make best efforts to update our databases within 1-4 weeks.
----------------------------------------------

Just to remind you!!
-----------------------Copy from WM site I am member of ----------------
So sorry you still having that problem.
I have tested now again, your IP is detected by the geoIP software by maxmind (http://maxmind.com) correctly with their paid version (GeoIP Country):

80.73.223.250 GB United Kingdom Cable and Wireless Guernsey Cable & Wireless Guernsey ADSL Customers

BUT not with their free version GeoLite Country.
Result with GeoLite Country is:

IP 80.73.223.250
Resolved Hostname bbdhome2-223-250.cwgsy.net
Country Unknown
--------------------------------------------------
Please can you resolve this ASAP? - for the lite version to point to bdbhome3 etc for C&W. Or give me an explanation as to why I was suddenly excluded as living Tier 1 and 2 Countries since 21st April?

Kind regards
soph

Update from Cable and Wireless Guernsey IP dept received today (they are almost as tardy as maxmind!)
-------------------------------- Copy ------------
Hi

This looks like a problem with GeoLite Country, all our IP ranges as registered with RIPE correctly.

Best Regards

IP Support

This really does not inspire me to continue in the PTR/PTC world as a member of sites using maxmind

Not a troublemaker, just a frustrated user!

In 2010 was hoping to set up a website using geotargetting.
But as a member of sites using maxmind - and unanswered 3+ emails to maxmind from me regarding above problem ~~~

It gives me a huge amount of confidence not to use this application

So I await the July 1st update to see if problem will be resolved by then!

1 day to go!

Will you, have you updated your script so I can get my status back on sites I belong to?

Having followed all advice from PO's
you at maxmind have not replied to any emails sent to you or forum posts here
I just did yet another IP lookup on maxmind tonight
----------------- copy -----------------------------

Hostname Country Code 3 Letter Code Country Name
78.111.202.87 GB GBR United Kingdom

----------end copy---------------------------------
So why does this problem still exist???

Thank you for not resolving this problem and not replying to my emails

I really do appreciate this, it shows your commitment to customer care.
So - where I live is not a Tier 1 or 2 country - where do I live? Please let me know.

Poof! back to Mars

For goodness sakes!
You Maxmind have done ZILCH about this!!
So now I have to cope with PTR/PTC sites who DON'T use your plugin
There are quite a few out there not using you MAXMIND
So off I go - posting in blogs about how good you are (cough!)
Why in drop down lists of sites I belong to is there no option for Great Britain or Guernsey or Channel Islands (Yep! Checked sites tonight)

Still no answer from you MAXMIND to my emails
Still not included in your July update
---------------------------------- copy done tonighit-------------
Look up Location by IP Address

MaxMind GeoIP Country Edition Results

Hostname Country Code 3 Letter Code Country Name
78.111.202.87 GB GBR United Kingdom

These results were generated with the Perl API and the MaxMind GeoIP Country Database.
---------------------end copy---------------------------------------
Why not?
I will continue to email and post till I do get a reply!!
Eck! now that is perserverance!

I love these big organisations.

They only respond when they want to
Not often or never!
Even the forum moderater has not got the courtesy to reply
Grrrrr!

So - am I alone in having NO email replies OR forum response?
Can anyone else do a lookup on my IP and confirm I live on Mars - well I was but now I have migrated to Jupiter - more moons there!

78.111.202.87

Au Revoir UK and EUROPE

But that dastadrly soph will be back soon!
Till I get an answer that is

Watch this space for the next enthralling episode :)

Even my online survey sites won't recognise me now

Ok. since my last post my IP has changed a bit now its

I get no answers as to why I am excluded from tier 1 or 2 countries!!

I really don't know the reasons on why you have to encounter that kind of problem.I will search for some of the solutions for that.

Thanks Jerrybair and pears :)

There are some things in life one gives up on and move forward!
Then there are are others you chase down to the bitter end come whatever!
Yep! Maxmind I am niggling at as suffering as a member of sites who use their geolite script!

I don't live on earth according to geolite!
There are large chunks of valid IP addresses missing for tier 1 and 2 countries, so how many invalid IP's are accepted?

Food for thought!
PS got a blog and spreading the message lol
